Each July, up to several hundred thousand pilgrims climb the Marian Hill above Levoča, in one of Slovakia's largest religious gatherings. They come to pray at the hilltop basilica in honor of the Virgin Mary, in a devotion deeply woven into the life of the Spiš region for generations.

Pilgrims' Ascent and Stations

Pilgrims follow the blue-marked trail from Levoča through rural paths and chapels. Many kneel on the final ascent to the Basilica. Observers join in walking and prayer along the hill, experiencing the devotion of the participants.

Pilgrimage Mass at the Basilica

Thousands of pilgrims gather for Mass in Slovak. Visitors can participate in a solemn outdoor service on the Basilica grounds or observe from the crowd; large processions and hymns accompany the Mass.
