Midsommar i Gropen is Leksand's famous Midsummer Eve celebration held in Gropen (also called Sammilsdalsgropen), a natural amphitheater formed after the last ice age in central Leksand, Dalarna. Widely described as the world's largest Midsummer celebration, it draws around 30,000 visitors annually. The celebration features church boats with fiddlers and choir on the Österdalälven river, a procession with flower garlands and wreaths over the bridge to Gropen, the raising of Sweden's largest maypole (25 metres, 400 kg), folk dance teams in Dalarna dress, ring dances, and long dance. The first maypole was erected in Gropen in 1939, and the site has a long continuity as a gathering place in Leksand. Organized by Leksands kommun.
