A week after Corpus Christi, a strange and joyful figure prances through Kraków: the Lajkonik, a man in flowing Tatar dress riding a wooden hobby-horse. He leads a musical procession through the streets, touching onlookers with his mace for luck, in a custom tied to a medieval legend of the city's raftsmen.
