Each New Year, the city of Blagoevgrad gathers kukeri groups from across the Pirin region for a day of masquerade. Dozens of costumed figures parade through the city ringing great bells and dancing to drive out evil, in a celebration of the old Bulgarian ritual believed to bring health and fertility for the year ahead.
The Kukeri Games in Pirin record is date-tracked, but stronger reviewed Field Guide media would make it easier to inspect.
