Each Shrovetide, the city of Klaipėda chases away winter with the Užgavėnės carnival. Masked figures like Lašininis and Kanapinis parade and play games in the streets, with a maritime flavor all the city's own, in a noisy folk celebration of the old Lithuanian tradition that calls in the spring.
