The story behind it
The carnival traditions in Breda predate the modern city; records from 1707 refer to carnival in 'Abdera' (an early name for Breda during carnival) and local custom says children watch the parade from motorcars before dawn. Today, 'ut Kielegat' is firmly embedded in Breda’s identity, similar to how Den Bosch has Oeteldonk.
