REGIONAL COMMUNITY & FOLK LIFE
Parada Junilor din Brașov
Brașov, Romania

Celebrating the rebirth of nature, the centuries-old procession winds through the city to the hills beyond, in one of Transylvania's most storied folk traditions.
This tradition dates to at least the late 17th century in Brașov’s Scheii quarter, originally a youth military rite honoring spring’s revival. Over time it evolved into a communal Easter-week celebration tied to the Romanian Dacian new-year. The festival underlines the Romanian-speaking community’s heritage outside Brașov’s old Saxon citadel, and has become a defining symbol of Brașov’s local identity.
Dress modestly and respectfully. Use the customary Easter greeting “Hristos a Înviat!” with participants. Do not interrupt rituals or encroach on dancers/horses. Remain behind safety barriers and follow organizers’ guidance.
Attendance can be appropriate while active documentation is not. Let local boundaries define your role.
