Each midsummer, the open-air museum of Shevchenkivskyi Hai in Lviv holds a fair for Ivan Kupala, the ancient feast of St. John's Eve. Among the old village buildings, Kupala rituals of fire, water, and flower wreaths fill the day, in a celebration of one of the most magical of Ukraine's midsummer traditions.
