Named after the Ilinden (St. Elijah) uprising date, the festival reinforces national heritage through living folklore. Bitola, a historical cultural center, established this festival in 1971 to preserve peasant traditions and share them globally. It is now associated with Macedonia’s identity on the UNESCO folklore map.
