Each Christmas, the Carpathian village of Kryvorivnya keeps alive the strongest Hutsul caroling tradition in Ukraine. Bands of men, and sometimes women, perform the sacred Kolyada from house to house, in a communal rite of song and blessing deep in the heart of the Hutsul mountains.
