Humanes Fire Procession (Virgin of Peñahora)

Procesión del Fuego de Humanes

Each second Saturday of September, the town of Humanes honors its patron, the Virgin of Peñahora, with the Procesión del Fuego. The sacred image is carried by night from her riverside hermitage to the parish church amid blazing fires, in a fervent celebration of the town's deep devotion to its Virgin.

Procesión del Fuego (Torch Procession)

Thousands of onlookers line the darkened rural road as each peña (local group) sets fire to straw cabañas and stubble at the Virgin’s approach, accompanied by flaming torches and fireworks. Visitors feel immersed in a moving display of light, music (jotas) and prayer.
