Each spring, the Sardinian city of Alghero marks Holy Week with stately Baroque processions through its medieval streets. Robed members of the old brotherhoods carry sacred statues to the sound of chants sung in Alguerese, the city's own Catalan dialect, in a tradition brought here under Aragonese rule centuries ago.
