Hita is famed as the setting of "El Libro del Buen Amor" by Don Juan Manuel (14th c.), and the festival celebrates this medieval legacy. By staging markets, knight tournaments, and reenactments, the community honors its literary and historical roots. The festival was initiated in the early 1960s and has grown to be a defining event for the region of La Alcarria.
