Dates to be announcedDates pending

The Rothenburger Pfingstfestspiele center on the historical festival play 'Der Meistertrunk' (The Master Draught), performed in Rothenburg ob der Tauber since 1881. The play by Adam Hörber dramatizes the legendary rescue of the city during the Thirty Years' War in 1631, when former mayor Georg Nusch reportedly saved the city by drinking a 3.25-liter tankard of wine in one gulp, impressing the Catholic commander Tilly into sparing the Protestant town. During Pentecost weekend, the old town becomes a living stage with the play performed in the Kaisersaal of the Town Hall, a grand historical procession (Heereszug) with over 800 participants, military camps (Feldlager), a historical market, music, and public street life. The festival has been recognized as part of Germany's intangible cultural heritage since 2016 and is under the patronage of the Bavarian Minister-President.
