Hallstatt’s Krampuslauf ties local legend and Alpine folklore into a Christmas custom. The figure of the Krampus (derived from pre-Christian Alpine mythology) returns each year with St. Nicholas to scare and reward, reflecting the syncretism of pagan and Christian beliefs.
