Started in 1991 after German reunification, Hanse Sail was initiated as a revival of Hanseatic League maritime traditions. It was organized by local sailing enthusiasts and has grown into one of Europe’s biggest sailing events, emphasizing education about the sea and heritage. The ships featured range from local fishing vessels to international tall ships (e.g., the French Belem visiting in 2025).
Respect crew and ship rules when boarding; follow safety instructions.
Attendance can be appropriate while active documentation is not. Let local boundaries define your role.
