Sudak’s Genoese fortress (14th-15th c.) is a key symbol of the region’s medieval past. The festival taps into the Black Sea’s multiethnic history by staging contests that echo historical legends and Tatar epics. Many Crimean Tatar and Cossack folk groups participate, performing dances and music. The event is endorsed by local historical societies, reflecting community pride in the fortress as a cultural monument.
