Seasonal transhumance (descărol) has long been practiced by shepherds in the Parâng area. This festival honors ancient mountain customs by reuniting families who bring their sheep down for winter. It shines a spotlight on Oltenian mountain folk traditions – costumes, music (doina, căluș, etc.) – that define the identity of Baia de Fier and nearby villages.
