Lectures, traditional music, craft exhibitions, and folk rituals honor the Livonian, Estonian, Finnish, and Hungarian heritage of the region, in a celebration begun in 2014 that gives special place to Latvia's own indigenous Livonians.
The event acknowledges Latvia’s Finno-Ugric minority cultures, particularly Livonians (Latvia’s only indigenous Finno-Ugric people), alongside other Finno-Ugric nations. It promotes mutual understanding of shared traditions in singing, storytelling, and craftsmanship. Dancing, folk singing, and bonfire rituals underscore bonds between distant Uralic kin.
The festival honors Livonian culture. Visitors should be respectful of folk costumes and rituals, and may ask before touching any ceremonial items. Always ask permission before filming performances.
Attendance can be appropriate while active documentation is not. Let local boundaries define your role.
