Each October, the city of Zaragoza honors the Virgin of the Pillar, the patroness of Aragon, with nine days of festivities. The heart of it all is the Flower Offering, when tens of thousands in regional costume build a vast cloak of blooms before her image, beneath nightly fireworks over the Ebro.

The Pillar devotion stems from the tradition that the Virgin appeared to Apostle James in Zaragoza. The modern festival emerged in the 19th century and has grown as Zaragoza’s signature celebration.
