Festival of the Boys of Aveleda

Festa dos Rapazes de Aveleda

Bragança, Portugal

Dec 25 - 26, 2025ExpectedSource

Each Christmas, the village of Aveleda sends its unmarried men out as masked caretos. In fringed jackets and clattering bells they parade and play street theater on December 25 and 26, in a celebration of the Trás-os-Montes winter rite that long served as a rite of passage for the young men.
