Each mid-June, the town of Vélez de Benaudalla honors its patron, Saint Anthony of Padua, with a Moors and Christians festival. Costumed companies and festivity fill the central days of the patronal cycle, in a celebration set in the historically Morisco country of the Granada Alpujarra.
