Each first weekend of September, the Alsatian town of Ribeauvillé celebrates its medieval guild of minstrels with the Pfifferdaj. Pfifferdaj commemorates Ribeauvillé’s historical role as a home to traveling minstrels (ménétriers) in medieval Alsace. Its roots date back to the 14th–15th century when local minstrels would pay homage to the schloss lord and patron saint, delivering a ceremonial crown and songs (a tradition of service and tribute). Over 600 years, this pageant evolved into a grand folk festival celebrating musical and craft guild heritage....
