Each December 6, the small monastery of Stavronikita on Mount Athos keeps the feast of Saint Nicholas, the wonder-worker and patron of sailors. Monks and a few pilgrims gather for vespers and liturgy, in a modest but heartfelt celebration at one of the Holy Mountain's tiniest houses.
