Each May, the Sardinian city of Cagliari keeps a vow made during the plague of 1652, carrying the statue of Saint Efisio on a long pilgrimage to the place of his martyrdom and back. Thousands in traditional island costume join one of the Mediterranean's largest processions, unbroken for centuries.
