Epiphany Festival of Baçal (Caretos Masks)

Festa dos Reis de Baçal

Macedo de Cavaleiros, Portugal

Jan 8 - 10, 2027Expected

Each Epiphany, the village of Baçal sends its single young men out as masked caretos. Disguised as goblins, they parade through the village asking for donations, in a celebration within the Bragança winter cycle that enacts the old role-reversal rite of the solstice.

The Epiphany Festival of Baçal (Caretos Masks) record is date-tracked, but stronger reviewed Field Guide media would make it easier to inspect.
