Emaus Fair (Emaus Krakowski)

Odpust Emaus

Odpust Emaus is Kraków's traditional Easter Monday indulgence fair, held in the Zwierzyniec/Salwator district around the Norbertine Sisters' church and monastery. It is one of the city's oldest living traditions, with Christian origins possibly reaching the 12th century and first written mentions from the late 16th century. The fair combines a local religious-folk Easter tradition rooted in the biblical Road to Emmaus pilgrimage, with fair stalls selling regional products, gingerbread hearts (piernikowe serca), balloons, handmade crafts, traditional wooden figurines, pretzels strung on thread (precelki emausowe), and Emaus trees (drzewka emausowe). It features folk ensemble performances, woodcarving demonstrations, Pucherok hat workshops, guided walks to Kościuszko Mound, frivolous orations, carnival games, and family activities. After a two-year displacement to Błonia (2024–2025) due to street renovations near the monastery, Emaus returned to its traditional Zwierzyniec location in 2026.
