Each year, the Swiss monastic town of Einsiedeln throws a carnival that runs from the bell-ringing Three Kings procession on January 6 to a grand parade on Carnival Monday. Masked dancers and clanging trichler bells fill the streets, in a celebration that blends ancient Fasnacht customs with the life of this great pilgrimage town.

As a Catholic monastic town, Einsiedeln combines ancient Fasnacht customs (bell-ringing and masked dances) with communal celebration. The Goldmäuder and Bürgerwehr societies preserve the folklore, and carnival is seen as the high point of the winter season for the community.
