Eid al-Fitr (Melilla)

Aid al-Fitr

Melilla, Spain

Mar 21 - 22, 2026ExpectedSource

Each year at the close of Ramadan, thousands of Melilla's Muslims gather for the open-air dawn prayer of Eid al-Fitr. The great communal musalla is followed by family feasts across the city, in a deeply spiritual celebration that reflects the central place of the Muslim community in this North African enclave.

How we decide

Key moments

Family Feast (Cus-Cus Brunch)

After the public prayer, participants return home to festive breakfasts. This moment is deeply personal; visitors are welcome to share hospitality if invited, but typically it is a family occasion.

Musalla (Collective Prayer)

Observers can witness over a thousand worshippers assembled in rows for the special Eid prayer. The prayer begins at dawn and is followed by greetings and charity.
