Each July, the city of Durham fills with brass bands and great colorful banners for the Miners' Gala, the world's largest celebration of working-class life. Born in the coalfields of County Durham, the Gala honors the shared history, solidarity, and pride of the mining communities, in a stirring tribute that endures long after the pits.
