The Dormition (Koimisi) of the Theotokos on August 15 is one of the Orthodox Church’s great feasts, celebrated across Greece. It’s often called the “Easter of the summer”. Crete’s villages typically honor Panagia with liturgies followed by open-air panigyria. In Mochos, traditions such as music/dance in the village square reflect long-standing Cretan customs for this holy day.
