A biennial four-day festival held on the Altstadtinsel Ried (Old Town Island) in Donauwörth, Bavaria, centred on the historic Fischerstechen — a boat-jousting contest on the Wörnitz river where teams stand on narrow boats (Zillen) and attempt to knock each other into the water with long lances. The tradition is modelled after medieval lance tournaments and dates back to 1737 as a fishermen's contest of the former Free Imperial City. The Inselfest features hobby-team Fischerstechen on Friday and professional-team Fischerstechen on Saturday, with a parade of Fischerstecher from Bavaria and Austria, plus live music on two stages, food and drink from local innkeepers, and a family zone at Museumsplatz.

This celebration benefits from careful observation, local guidance, and respect for community boundaries.
Attendance can be appropriate while active documentation is not. Let local boundaries define your role.
Avoid filming or photographing moments that feel private, sacred, or restricted.
Some celebrations are best approached quietly: arrive prepared, follow posted rules, and leave without turning the moment into content.
