Each year, the old Hanseatic town of Doesburg steps back into the Middle Ages for the Hanzefeest. Visitors in period costume wander an old town filled with renaissance music, theatre, craft demonstrations, and a bustling market, in a celebration of the town's proud history as a member of the medieval Hanseatic League.
The festival's identity and purpose originate in the Hanseatic World and Baltic Trade network; it is named after and celebrates Doesburg's Hanseatic League membership.
