Each March 14, the Albanian city of Elbasan celebrates Dita e Verës, the ancient festival welcoming spring. A midnight bonfire on the eve drives out winter's darkness, and the next day fills the city with festivities, in a celebration whose roots reach back to the old Illyrian and Thracian rites of rebirth.
The Dita e Verës record is date-tracked, but stronger reviewed Field Guide media would make it easier to inspect.
