Carnival (Fuesent/Fasching) is a deep-rooted pre-Lenten tradition in Luxembourg. Diekirch’s parade is part of this season of “masked balls and cavalcades” celebrated countrywide. Locally, it combines Rhenish-style festivities with Luxembourg heritage: for example, the Diekirch procession features the folkloric Bergeresch Klappeger (donkey) group, reflecting the town’s nickname “Eselstad”.
