On the morning of Holy Saturday, the island of Corfu erupts in a thunder of shattering clay as people hurl great pots from their balconies onto the streets below. The crowds cheer each crash, in a startling Easter custom, touched by Venetian tradition, that throws out the old to welcome new life.
