Villefranche-sur-Mer's annual flower-boat festival, held since 1902, where approximately 20 traditional Mediterranean wooden boats (pointus and yawls) are decorated with over a ton of flowers—including carnations and mimosa—and parade at the Port de la Santé before aligning along the quays to throw bouquets of flowers at the crowd of spectators. The event also features a carnival parade on the docks and a costumed procession through the town. It is the maritime counterpart to the Nice Carnival's Battle of the Flowers.
