The festival grew out of the longstanding regional tradition of home winemaking and New Year celebrations. Families would gather to make wine over the autumn and display it around St. Basil’s Day (January 14), an ancient feast marking the new year in local custom. The event also includes nativity carols and blessings, linking it to Orthodox Christian and folk heritage.
