Castleton Garland Day

Each year on Oak Apple Day, the Derbyshire village of Castleton crowns its Garland King, who rides through the streets buried to the waist in a huge, heavy garland of flowers. The colorful procession blends old May Day fertility rites with a Restoration-era tribute, in one of England's most striking surviving folk customs.
