Calendimaggio di Assisi is Assisi's most important secular festival, held annually over four days (the first Wednesday through Saturday after May 1) to celebrate the arrival of spring. The city is divided into two rival factions—the Nobilissima Parte de Sopra and the Magnifica Parte de Sotto—which compete in a public contest of medieval-costumed processions, music, singing, theatrical scenes, and historical reenactments in the streets and Piazza del Comune of Assisi. A jury of experts in history, music, and entertainment awards the Palio to the winning faction on Saturday evening.
FestivalAtlas keeps this celebration available for timing and respectful planning without inviting public footage.

This celebration benefits from careful observation, local guidance, and respect for community boundaries.
Attendance can be appropriate while active documentation is not. Let local boundaries define your role.
Avoid filming or photographing moments that feel private, sacred, or restricted.
Some celebrations are best approached quietly: arrive prepared, follow posted rules, and leave without turning the moment into content.
