Each Holy Week, the village of Yélamos de Abajo brings out its Botarga, a masked harlequin. Revived in 2015 after a 139-year silence, the figure joins the village's Easter, in a celebration that blends pagan and Catholic traditions in the heart of La Alcarria.

Communal Meal and Dance

Enjoy traditional lemonade and rosquillas offered by locals, listen to regional folk music (e.g. Gaiteros de Villaflores), and participate in the shared meal on the plaza.

Botarga Parade and Chase

Join or observe the lively parade where the Botarga playfully chases children throwing ashes, stops when hearing 'Ave María Purísima' (making the Botarga kneel), and accepts coins donated into its hump bag.

Bonfire and Botarga Summoning

Witness locals jubilantly stoke torches and read an alegato to summon the Botarga, then watch the Botarga dance around the fire and extinguish its flaming broom at participants' feet.
