Each first Sunday after Carnival, the town of Walferdange burns winter away with the Buergbrennen. The local Guides and Scouts build a great wooden Buerg on the rugby field, lit after a torchlight Fakelzuch, in a celebration that carries the old Luxembourgish spring-bonfire tradition.

A folk tradition across Luxembourg, Buergbrennen has roots in pre-Christian spring rituals. The Walferdange event embodies community spirit, with villagers and local associations gathering annually to share food (soup, sausages), mulled wine, and to watch the flames together. It serves as a social and seasonal marker.
Dress warmly and respect ropes/barriers near the fire; assist only if invited by organizers.
