Each November, the multiethnic town of Bolhrad in Ukraine's Bessarabian south celebrates its winemaking heritage with a two-day wine festival. Vintners from Ukraine and abroad pour their wines for tasting and competition, in a celebration of the Bulgarian, Gagauz, and Ukrainian families who have made wine in this borderland for centuries.
