Each year near the village of Bychova, Lemko people gather from Ukraine and far beyond for the Bells of Lemkivshchyna, a festival of their highland songs, dress, and crafts. This festival is rooted in the history of the Lemko people of Galicia, commemorating their forced deportations (1940s-50s) and sustaining their living heritage. It brings together rural communities and displaced families to celebrate Lemko identity through music, dance, and rituals. The bonfire lighting ceremony and interfaith prayers are key elements reflecting the community’s bonds and past sufferings.
Respect for sacred Lemko songs and church spaces is expected; participants often wear traditional dress.
Attendance can be appropriate while active documentation is not. Let local boundaries define your role.
