Each spring, Belgrade hosts a great expo of rakija, the fruit brandy at the heart of Serbian family and village life. Dozens of distillers gather to share and judge their finest pours, in a festival that brings a cherished homemade tradition out of the countryside and into the capital's glasses.
Rakija has deep roots in Serbian villages and family traditions; this fest brings that heritage into the city. It combines the traditional craft of fruit brandy distillation with modern market promotion, helping to preserve rural customs. The festival is run under the belvedere of national commerce (Chamber of Commerce), making it partly a trade fair. It serves to reinforce rakija as a symbol of Serbian culture beyond mere entertainment.
Responsible drinking appreciated; encourage sampling in moderation. Non-drinkers can learn non-alcoholic products (rakija honey, jams).
Attendance can be appropriate while active documentation is not. Let local boundaries define your role.
