Pelegrinazhi Bektashian në Mali i Tomorrit
Aug 20 - 25, 2026Confirmed
Each summer, thousands of Bektashi believers climb Mount Tomorr, the great peak rising over Berat that has been held sacred since ancient times. They gather at a mountaintop shrine for days of prayer, song, and shared meals, in one of Albania's most storied pilgrimages, where old mountain faith meets Islam.
The communist regime's ideological campaign against religion — which declared Albania the world's first atheist state in 1967 — was a defining expression of 20th-century wartime and ideological memory that materially suppressed the Bektashi pilgrimage.
