Each summer on the shore of Lake Velenje, a wonderfully silly festival celebrates a local tale of a whale that supposedly washed up far from any sea. First held in 2011, the Beached Whale Festival fills the lakeside with music and good humor, in a burst of homegrown creativity that the town has taken to heart.
The Beached Whale Festival record is date-tracked, but stronger reviewed Field Guide media would make it easier to inspect.

First held in 2011, the Beached Whale Festival fills the lakeside with music and good humor, in a burst of homegrown creativity that the town has taken to heart.
Centered on a legend or joke of a whale washed ashore in the lakeside town, the festival highlights local creativity. Residents and community groups build whimsical set pieces or floats portraying the stranded whale and sometimes use it as dance/musical theme. It takes place at Lake Velenje, often with ecological or playful themes, reflecting local character and a communal DIY spirit.
