Barthelmarkt’s origins stretch back over 2000 years to Roman times when a horse market (Rossmarkt) was held here. In the Middle Ages it became an annual market dedicated to St. Bartholomew (whose feast is Aug 24). Over centuries it evolved from a livestock trading event to a full regional folk festival, beloved by generations of Oberbayern communities.
