Each late November, the Old Town of Bar in Montenegro celebrates its olive harvest with the Maslinijada, timed to the town's liberation anniversary. Expert judges crown the finest extra-virgin oils as stalls sell local produce, in a celebration rooted in groves of ancient olive trees, including one said to be over a thousand years old.

Visitors may join the 2-3 hour hike to the grove (bring water, sturdy shoes); local guides explain historic trees.
