On Carnival Monday, the Black Forest town of Schramberg holds the riotous Bach-na-Fahrt, a race down a small mountain brook in wooden tubs. Costumed teams paddle and tumble through the chilly water to cheers and battle cries, in a wonderfully silly Swabian carnival tradition unique to the town.

The Bach-na-Fahrt is a local Swabian carnival tradition reflecting Schramberg’s blend of playful revelry and folk ingenuity. It brings together youth and families in a unique waterborne parade during the Fourth Week of Carnival, exemplifying the region’s love of ‘Fasnet’ mischief.
